New Licenses

  • KGRQ-LD 29.x (21) Gila River Indian Community (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) requested and has been granted a license to cover its maximized facilities. Technical specifications: Ch 21; TL 33° 0' 7" N, 111° 40' 28" W (Sacaton Peak); ERP 15 kW H, directional; HAAT 435 m (1427 ft).
  • KGNG-LD 26.x Las Vegas NV (King Kong Broadcasting Inc.) requested and has been granted a license to cover its relocated facilities. Technical specifications: Ch 26; TL 35° 56' 46" N, 115° 2' 37" W (Arden Pk); ERP 15 kW H, directional; HAAT 539 m (1768 ft).

Call Sign Changes

  • K19JT-D Gila River Indian Community (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) has reserved call sign KGRX-LD for its station under construction.

Programming Changes

  • KPHO-TV 5.x (17) Phoenix (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) has added a subchannel. Channel 5.4 is airing ShopLC and becomes the third fulltime outlet for Shop LC in the Phoenix market, and the first on a full power station.
  • KSAZ-TV 10.x Phoenix (NW Communications of Phoenix Inc.) has stopped carrying Light TV on channel 10.4, following Allen Media Group's acquisition of the diginet. Allen Media Group will relaunch the diginet as The Grio, a network featuring content focused on the Black community. Channel 10.4 now airs a slide announcing the debut of The Grio on January 15, 2021, significant as the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.
  • K34EE-D 61.x Prescott-Cottonwood (Scripps Broadcasting Holdings LLC) is silent. Its CW programming is carried by K33NZ-D Cottonwood, Scripps' KNXV-TV translator, and the rest of its programming is carried by K36AE-D Clarkdale, Fox's KSAZ-TV translator.
  • KHMP-LD 18.x Las Vegas NV (DNV Spectrum Holdings LLC) has dropped their subchannels that carried no programming, leaving France24 on channel 18.1, Shop TV on channel 18.4 and 702TV on channel 18.8.
  • KLVD-LD 23.x Las Vegas NV (Word of God Fellowship Inc.) has added a Spanish-language broadcast on channel 23.2, following the lead of stations in other cities.
  • KPVT-LD 2.x Las Vegas NV (DNV Spectrum Holdings LLC) has added a subchannel. Channel 2.8 is blank but carries a PSIP description of 702TV, indicating that it will likely be a simulcast of KHMP-LD 18.8.

Branding Changes

  • HC2 has rebranded its public domain classic TV programming as Timeless TV. The programming is interspersed with infomercial programming. Timeless TV can be found on K18JL-D channel 22.5 and on KPDF-CD channel 41.6. Last month, HC2 branded its public domain movies programming as Magnificent Movies Network, or MMN. MMN airs on K18JL-D channel 22.7.

Transactions

  • The FCC has approved the assignment KBFY-LP 41 Fortuna from Powell Meredith Communications Company to Jeff Chang. Purchase price of the station was $5,500. The seller will assist the buyer in requesting a construction permit or STA to move to a different location.

Construction Permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) Granted

  • KAZT-CD 7.x (36) Phoenix (KAZT LLC) has been granted a modification of its license to specify a non-directional broadcast pattern instead of the current directional pattern. KAZT has been receiving complaints from viewers in Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Jct. and Gold Canyon about interference from co-channel KUVE-CD Tucson. An omnidirectional antenna will provide more power and better reception to the south and east to combat the interference from Tucson. Technical specifications: Ch 36; TL 33° 20' 2" N, 112° 3' 43" W (South Mtn); ERP 15 kW H / Unknown V, non-directional, 1.5° elec beam tilt; HAAT 484 m (1588 ft).
  • KNXV-TV 15.x Phoenix (Scripps Broadcasting Holdings Inc.) has been granted a construction permit to maximize power from its current 458 kW H / 185 kW V. Technical specifications: Ch 15; TL 33° 20' 0" N, 112° 3' 49" W (South Mtn.); ERP 1000 kW H / 400 kW V, non-directional, 0.75° elec beam tilt; HAAT 521 m (1709 ft).
  • KTVW-DT 33.x Phoenix (KTVW License Partnership GP) requested and has been granted a construction permit to increase power from its current 470 kW H / 117.5 kW V. Technical specifications: Ch 33; TL 33° 20' 0" N, 112° 3' 49" W (South Mtn.); ERP 560 kW H / 140 kW V, directional, 1° elec beam tilt; HAAT 510 m (1613 ft).
  • KESE-LP 35 Yuma (NPG of Yuma-El Centro LLC) has been granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital. Technical specifications: Ch 35; TL 32° 38' 31" N, 114° 33' 37" W (S Ave 4E & E County 14th St); ERP 8 kW H, directional, 0.25° elec beam tilt; HAAT 78 m (256 ft).
  • KASW 61.x (27) Phoenix (Scripps Broadcasting Holdings LLC) has been granted a modification to its Distributed Televison System (DTS) construction permit. The station intends to drop the San Tan Valley and Gila Bend sites and go with a two-site DTS with locations at South Mountain and Shaw Butte.
  • K30DT-D 7.x Flagstaff (KAZT LLC) requested and has been granted an amendment to its flash cut construction permit, allowing it to move to a different tower, and to increase power from its permitted 0.95 kW. Technical specifications: Ch 30; TL 35° 14' 25" N, 111° 35' 52" W (Mt. Elden); ERP 1.73 kW H, directional; HAAT 615 m (2018 ft).
  • KVVU-TV 5.x (9) Henderson NV (KVVU Broadcasting Corporation) requested and has been granted a construction permit, as amended, to increase power from its current 86 kW H. Technical specifications: Ch 9; TL 36° 0' 26" N, 115° 0' 25" W (Black Mtn.); ERP 120 kW H, non-directional, 0.75° elec beam tilt; HAAT 383 m (1256 ft).
  • KMYU 12.x (9) St. George UT (KUTV Licensee LLC) has been granted a construction permit to maximize power from its current 3.2 kW H. Technical specifications: Ch 9; TL 37° 3' 48" N, 113° 34' 26" W (Webb Hill); ERP 160 kW H, directional; HAAT 57 m (187 ft).
  • K40KZ St. George UT (Edge Spectrum Inc.) has been granted an Engineering STA to build out its digital facilities at lower power than its construction permit specifies. Technical specifications: Ch 15; TL 37° 3' 49" N, 113° 54' 25" W (West Mountain Peak); ERP 0.1 kW H, directional; HAAT -170 m (-558 ft), 20 m (66 ft) AGL.

  • KPDF-CD 41.x (22) Phoenix (HC2 Station Group Inc.) has requested a construction permit to move to a different tower in its current antenna farm and to maximize power from its authorized 12.6 kW H. Technical specifications: Ch 22; TL 33° 20' 4" N, 112° 3' 44" W (South Mtn.); ERP 15 kW H / 15 kW V, non-directional, 1.75° elec beam tilt; HAAT 472 m (1548 ft).
  • KHDF-CD 19.x Las Vegas NV (HC2 Station Group Inc.) has requested a construction permit to move to a different tower in its current antenna farm, to change from horizontal polarization to circular and to maximze power from its authorized 7.5 kW H. Technical specifications: Ch 19; TL 36° 0' 36" N, 115° 0' 23" W (Black Mtn.); ERP 15 kW H / 15 kW V, directional, 0.25° elec beam tilt; HAAT 354 m (1161 ft).
  • KNBX-CD 31.x (14) Las Vegas NV (HC2 LPTV Holdings Inc.) has requested a construction permit to change from a directional antenna to omnidirectional. Technical specifications: Ch 14; TL 35° 56' 46" N, 115° 2' 37" W (Arden Pk); ERP 15 kW H, non-directional; HAAT 550 m (1804 ft).
  • K36NE-D 43.x Las Vegas NV (HC2 Station Group Inc.) has requested a construction permit to move to a different tower in its current antenna farm and to change from elliptical polarization to circular. Technical specifications: Ch 36; TL 36° 0' 36" N, 115° 0' 23" W (Black Mtn.); ERP 15 kW H / 15 kW V, directional; HAAT 354 m (1161 ft).
  • K39JZ-D 11.x St. George UT (Brigham Young University) has requested a modification to its displacement construction permit, intending to move to a different tower and to reduce power. Technical specifications: Ch 14; TL 37° 3' 49" N, 113° 34' 20" W (Webb Hill); ERP 0.25 kW H, directional, 1.75° elec beam tilt; HAAT 70 m (230 ft).

Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

  • KHSV 21.x (2) Las Vegas NV (Channel 33 Inc.) has filed a petition with the FCC to change its allotment for Las Vegas, Nevada, from RF channel 2 to RF channel 21, citing numerous and well-documented issues receiving low-VHF stations.
  • KMYU 12.x (9) St. George UT (KUTV Licensee LLC) has filed a petition with the FCC to change its allotment for St. George, Utah, from RF channel 9 to RF channel 21, citing numerous and well-documented issues receiving high-VHF stations.

The start of the new year saw KINC Las Vegas cut loose Stadium on their 15.3. The PSIP has even been removed. The network continues to be seen on KSNV 3.4.
