Arizona TV Station Update - November 2014

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

Programming changes

  • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications, LLC) replaced the duplicate GNTV Latino broadcast on channel 22.4, first with a promotional loop for the Rev'n Automotive Network, then with the Impact Television Network, a Russian-language Christian network out of Sacramento CA, and finally with programming from Rev'n. KTVP has also replaced the black screen and ShopNow description with Jewelry TV, a duplicate of what Daystar offers on their secondary subchannel.
  • KEGS-LD 30.x (24) Las Vegas NV (Mako Communications, LLC) is added the Rev'n Automotive Network, placing it on channel 30.4.

Transactions

  • KLAS-TV 8.x (7) Las Vegas NV (KLAS LLC) has been sold by Landmark Television LLC to Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., contingent upon FCC approval.

Construction permits and STAs granted

  • K32LO-D Prescott (Luke Skelton) has been granted a displacement construction permit to change channels and to move transmitter location, reducing power to conform to the new site's power restrictions. The station has already been operating with the new parameters per STA. Technical specifications: Ch 32; TL 34-29-25 N, 112-31-57 W (Mt. Francis); ERP 1.2 kW directional; HAAT 190 m.

Applications and STAs requested

  • K49HP Camp Verde (The Camp Verde TV Club) has filed an application for Silent STA due to equipment failure.

Canceled, Dismissed, Expired or Expiring

  • The original construction permit for K30MM-D Gila River Indian Co (Gila River Telecommunications, Inc.) expires December 13.
  • The original construction permit for K48NJ-D Needles CA (Tri-State Christian Radio) expires December 13.

License Renewals

  • KMOH-TV 6.x (19) Kingman (Hero Licenseco LLC) has been granted its license renewal. The license is now effective through October 1, 2022.
  • KNAZ-TV 2.x (22) Flagstaff (Multimedia Holdings Corporation) has been granted its license renewal. The license is now effective through October 1, 2022.

  • K49ET Many Farms (KOB-TV, LLC) has been granted its license renewals for both 2006 and 2014. The license is now effective through October 1, 2022.
  • KPNX 12.x Mesa (Multimedia Holdings Corporation) has amended its license renewal application to add issues and program lists from 2006 and 2007 that had been inadvertently omitted from the online public file.
  • KHMP-LD 18.x Las Vegas (Hilltop Church) has been granted its license renewal. The license is now effective through October 1, 2022.

Trip, if you could add New Mexico's broadcasting news.

Thanks!

Yeah I caught that Rev'n/Russian fiasco the other day. At first I thought the feed was inadvertently taken from REN a Russian satellite station instead of REVN. Too bad it didn;t stay on the Russian lang. station, REVN is a huge bore. If Luken is looking for bargain content gee whiz even running public domain shows would be better.

N5XZS, I don't put together the Arizona Station Update, dhett does. He's an Arizona resident and thus keeps up with the news and information relevant to him. If you would like to put together a similar column for New Mexico, I would be glad to host it here.

Las Vegas viewers, and perhaps a smattering of NW Arizona viewers, discovered that MiCasa replaced PBJ on KGNG 47.2 several days ago. The two diginets seem to be playing tag with the KGNG sub-channel. From my personal observations, and opinions, MiCasa has little to offer, in addition to being of very inferior delivered video quality as received by KGNG. At least PBJ did offer some cartoons that some viewers in our NV/AZ region lacked from other networks. At about the same time, Hispanic religious broadcaster Aviva was replaced on KGNG 47.7 with informercials. Have we seen the last of Aviva in Las Vegas? Probably not.

KPHE (44) Phoenix, AZ just dropped Retro TV from .2 and added Revn instead, now on two subcarriers (also on 22.4 KTVP-LD)

Last night 44.2 was back to RetroTV. According to the Rev'n website, 44.3 is supposed to carry Rev'n and that weird station that is on there now, will be dropped. RetroTV is still listed on the RetroTV website as being on 44.2. It looks like Lotus, here, is pairing with Luken Communications and using their airwaves wisely. SiTV looks good too on 44.1. They finally have a station identification for PBJ on 44.4 now.

W35BB Dublin has flash cut to digital.

KPHE 44.1 is running a blank 5th channel, 44.5. It looks like they are getting ready to add REV'N on 44.3 and move that weird health/religious station to 44.5.

RDVegas sez: "...From my personal observations, and opinions, MiCasa has little to offer..." RD I don't speak Spanish nor am I of Latin descent but MiCasaTV had on the "Escaramuza" girls- the elegant display of ladies horse riding/animal husbandry skills on one of their programs. Fascinating and beautiful, the ladies rode sidesaddle wearing old timey, hand made gowns and rode horses making difficult passes, etc. The show was b'cast from Michoacán I believe. There IS much to offer on those small stations that will never be carried on cable/pay TV.

44.5 is also running a blank place holder in the Arizona market- not sure what will be going there.

Am I the only one to notice, that the stations that use the "variable" setting on their subcarriers (i.e. .2, .3 if that's the proper term) have more digital artifacts? And the stations that use "constant" do not ?

12. On Thursday, January 8 2015, 08:52 by Trip Ericson

Steve, I've heard people say that before, but I haven't observed it myself. I suspect it's more a function of the quality of the encoder or the settings used as opposed to the variability itself.
