• K09KV Prescott (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) has requested a license to cover its displacement flash cut to digital, with modified parameters. When licensed, its call sign should be K30JD-D. Technical specifications: Ch 30; TL 34-29-25 N, 112-32-0 W (Mt. Francis); ERP 1.2 kW directional; HAAT 478 m.
• K36FO Calexico CA (CABAFAM, Inc.) has requested a license to cover its displacement digital flash cut construction permit with modified parameters. The station is not yet operational. Technical specifications: Ch 7; TL 32-40-30 N, 115-22-38 W (Calexico East); ERP 3 kW non-directional; HAAT 86 m.
• K38AU Tohatchi NM (The Navajo Nation) has requested a license to cover its digital flash cut construction permit with modified parameters. The station's signal is predicted to reach the upslope areas of the Navajo Nation, west of Window Rock and Fort Defiance and is to rebroadcast K44BB Window Rock (now K45LU-D), which in turn, rebroadcasts KNME-TV Albuquerque NM. Technical specifications: Ch 38; TL 35-54-37 N, 108-46-26 W (Deza Bluffs); ERP 0.62 kW directional; HAAT 597 m.

Programming changes

• The FOX network has announced a joint venture with Weigel Broadcasting Co. to launch a digital subchannel movie network sometime this spring. Simply called Movies!, it's planned to roll out on 17 Fox O&Os nationwide, including Phoenix. No specific date has been given. It is yet unknown whether the subchannel will air on KSAZ-TV or on KUTP, but given FOX's desire to have as much bandwidth as possible available on the FOX station, it seems reasonable to expect the new diginet to be added to KUTP.
• KTAZ 39.x Phoenix (NBC Telemundo License LLC) has dropped SOi TV from channel 39.3, replacing it with color bars. Telemundo and SOi have parted company nationwide, and SOi programming now only airs on broadcast stations in New York and Los Angeles, and on cable outlets in Los Angeles and Puerto Rico.
• KHRR 40.x Tucson (NBC Telemundo License LLC) has dropped SOi TV from channel 40.3, replacing it with color bars.
• KVOA 4.x (23) Tucson (KVOA Communications, Inc.) and Class A translator K04QP-D Casas Adobes, have added channel 4.2 to their channel lists. Currently airing color bars, it is set to become the home of Cozi TV soon.
• KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications LLC) has dropped Mexicanal programming from channel 22.2, replacing it with color bars. Although the change occurred in December, it was not reported, as Mako adds and drops channels frequently on their stations in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
• K25DM Phoenix (Mako Communications LLC) has added Punch TV programming to channel 25.2. Although the station still has an analog call sign, it operates in digital per STA.
• K09KV Prescott (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) has begun broadcasting in digital on channel 30, using virtual channel 5. A translator for KPHO Phoenix, its lineup consists of CBS programming on channel 5.1 and Weather on channel 5.2.
• KPDF-CA 41.x Phoenix (Una Vez Más Phoenix License LLC) has added Living Tapestry Network to channel 41.2. The channel formerly aired on KFPB-LD 50.3 in Phoenix.
• KBLR 39.x Las Vegas NV (NBC Telemundo License LLC) has dropped SOi TV from channel 39.3, replacing it with color bars.
• KSNV-DT 3.x Las Vegas NV (Southern Nevada Communications) has announced plans to drop syndicated programming as contracts expire and replace them with local news. Jim Rogers, head of Intermountain West Communications, which owns KSNV and several other stations, including KYMA in Yuma, plans to have the Vegas NBC affiliate completely on the new format by 2016, according to a TVNewsCheck article. The goal is admirable, but will it work? It didn't work for KNXV Phoenix when it first launched in 1979. If news does work at KSNV, will KYMA see the same format in the future?

• K44ST-D 44.x Avondale AZ (3-Cities Television Club, Inc.) has been granted an STA to operate a low-power digital broadcast at the NASCAR events at Phoenix International Raceway from February 26 through March 5 on RF channel 44. 3-Cities is the licensee name for FanVision Entertainment, who has set up temporary broadcasts from PIR in the past. The signal is meant to be received by handheld devices sold by FanVision or rented to fans by the venue operators. The signal is authorized within a two-mile radius, but past broadcasts have not been receivable outside the race track, likely due to incompatible equipment. • K49ST-D 49.x Las Vegas NV (3-Cities Television Club, Inc.) has been granted an STA to operate a low-power digital broadcast at the NASCAR events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from March 5 through March 12 on RF channel 49. The setup is similar to what FanVision Entertainment has proposed for PIR the week before. The signal is authorized within a two-mile radius, but past broadcasts have not been receivable outside the race track, likely due to incompatible equipment.
