Arizona TV Station Update - February 2013

New licenses

  • K30JD-D Prescott (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) has been granted a license to cover its displacement flash cut to digital, with modified parameters. Its former analog call sign was K09KV. Technical specifications: Ch 30; TL 34-29-25 N, 112-32-0 W (Mt. Francis); ERP 1.2 kW directional; HAAT 478 m.
  • The FCC canceled, then reinstated, the license application for K55IY Camp Verde (The Camp Verde TV Club), to cover its displacement to an in-core channel.
  • K07ZF Calexico CA (CABAFAM, Inc.) has been granted a license to cover its displacement digital flash cut construction permit with modified parameters. Its former call sign was K36FO. Technical specifications: Ch 7; TL 32-40-30 N, 115-22-38 W (Calexico East); ERP 3 kW non-directional; HAAT 86 m.
  • K38AU-D Tohatchi NM (The Navajo Nation) has been granted a license to cover its digital flash cut construction permit with modified parameters. Technical specifications: Ch 38; TL 35-54-37 N, 108-46-26 W (Deza Bluffs); ERP 0.62 kW directional; HAAT 597 m.

Transactions

  • KLHU-CA 45 Lake Havasu City (Jensen Investments, FLP) has consummated transfer of control of the family limited partnership to Jolene Jensen.

Construction permits and STAs granted

  • K20FO Sierra Vista (KVOA Communications Inc.) requested and was granted an STA to operate at one-half authorized power due to equipment failure. Technical specifications: Ch 20; TL 31-29-8 N, 109-57-21 W (Mule Mtns.); ERP 24.7 kW directional; HAAT 644 m.
  • K47OA-D Washington UT (University of Utah) has been granted a minor modification to its license, to reduce the tower height by one meter.
  • DK43DL Zuni NM (Zuni Public School District) has been granted an STA to essentially start a new digital TV station, however, a freeze on new stations prohibits the FCC from issuing an original construction permit. The analog license, on which this STA is based, was canceled in April 2011 after the station failed to renew in 2006. The station's signal is expected to be receivable in Arizona. Technical specifications: Ch 43; TL 35-6-50 N, 108-44-12 W; ERP 1.05 kW directional; HAAT 140 m.

  • K55DB 8.x (43) Prescott (Arizona Board of Regents for ASU) has requested an extension of its STA to operate in digital at one-half the power authorized in its displacement flash cut construction permit while it awaits delivery of its transmitter. Currently, the station is using a temporary transmitter but is already using its ultimate antenna. Technical specifications: Ch 43, TL 34-29-25 N, 112-31-59 W (Mt. Francis), ERP 0.615 kW directional, HAAT 486 m.
  • K24CY St. George UT (Larry H. Miller Communications Corp.) has requested to flash cut to digital. Technical specifications: Ch 24; TL 37-3-50 N, 113-34-19 W (Webb Hill); ERP 0.3 kW non-directional; HAAT 46 m.

Canceled, Denied, Dismissed, Expired or Expiring

  • The FCC has canceled the license of phantom-caster K53IJ Peeples Valley (KVFW-TV LLC) for failure to broadcast within a twelve-month period. The station's displacement construction permit to move to Sun City on channel 21 has also been dismissed.
  • The FCC has canceled the license of K64BV Casas Adobes (KVOA Communications, Inc.) for failure to broadcast within a twelve-month period. KVOA has been using digital companion K04QP-D for a long time and recently moved K64BV's class A designation to K04QP-D.
