Construction Permits and STAs Requested

  • KJPO-LD 49.x (25) Tonopah (Iglesia Manmin Toda la Creacion USA Inc.) has requested a Silence STA, claiming that it ceased broadcasting on January 7 after losing access to its transmitter site. The station plans to file an application for modification to its license to specify a new transmission site. The electronics site on the White Tanks Mountains is about 30 miles from the currently licensed site.
  • Saankhya Labs Pvt Ltd has requested an Experimental STA to operate NextGen facilities during the National Association of Broadcasters Show, scheduled for April 23 - 27. Saankhya plans to test a prototype Direct to Mobile Broadcast system, a 5G Broadcast technology. Temporary authorization is requested for April 21 - 28 with a community of license of Las Vegas NV. Technical specifications: Ch 31; TL 36° 8' 0" N, 115° 9' 28" W (Las Vegas Convention Center); ERP 0.04 kW EP; HAAT -12 m (-39 ft) (3 m AGL [10 ft]).

NextGen TV

  • KGRX-LD 19.x Gila River Indian Community (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) has been granted a modification to its license to discontinue NextGen operations and return to ATSC 1.0 broadcasting.

License Renewals

Television licenses in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah expire October 1, 2022, and in California, December 1, 2022. License renewal applications are due four months prior to expiration, or June 1, 2022 for Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah, and August 1, 2022 for California.

The following television stations have filed a license renewal application:

  • KYPO-LD 27.x Tacna (LMO Christian Media Inc.)

Notes

  • In the asset purchase agreement between Standard General and Tegna, it declares that neither KPNX Mesa nor KMSB Tucson is a top 4 station in its market. With each station being an affiliate of a Big 4 English-language television network, and even taking into account that the Spanish-language Univision station is likely one of the top 4 stations in each market, that declaration speaks volumes about Tegna's management. One can only hope that Standard General will do better.

Late-breaking updates:

- The rumor was true. KTAZ 39.5 is now showing as Oxygen, however, there is no programming yet.
- KDVD-LD 50.x (25) has dropped channel 50.3, which aired a For Lease graphic. The station now has channels 50.1, 50.2 and 50.4 - 50.8.
- K30MM-D has begun broadcasting. The signal is weak in my west Chandler location, likely due to interference from co-channel KUAT, which is Tucson's strongest station, and can only be picked up by the one television not connected to the attic antenna. Oddly enough, the station uses virtual channel 31 and airs infomercials on channel 31.1.
