Arizona TV Station Update - February 2019

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

With Repack Phase 2 well underway, things have become very quiet in Arizona and surrounding communities in California, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico.

Programming Changes

  • K36NE-D 43.x Las Vegas NV (HC2 Station Group Inc.) has once again added channels 43.2 and 43.3, but instead of Seventh-Day Adventist programming provided by the station's previous owner, these subchannels now offer infomercials and shopping. Channel 43.2 is now OnTV4U.

Construction Permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) Granted

  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV LLC) has been granted a construction permit to vacate the 600-MHz band, after amending its displacement construction permit to specify RF channel 25 instead of RF channel 21, resolving its mutual exclusivity to an application from KGRQ-LD Gila River Indian Community. Technical specifications: Ch 25; TL 33° 19' 57" N, 112° 4' 0' W (South Mtn.); ERP 5.5 kW directional (2.5° electrical beam tilt); HAAT 480 m.
  • K43GQ-D 4.x Klagetoh (KOB-TV LLC) has been granted a construction permit to vacate the 600-MHz band, after amending its displacement construction permit to specify RF channel 27 instead of RF channel 25, resolving its mutual exclusivity to an application from K38AU-D Tohatchi NM, which has also been granted. Its new call sign will be K27OR-D. Technical specifications: Ch 27; TL 35° 40' 29" N, 109° 12' 25" W (approx. 1/2 mi. S of AZ-264 and IR-201); ERP 0.205 kW (1.5° electrical beam tilt); HAAT 146 m.

This week Las Vegas LPTV station KNBX-31 went through their PSIP's and relabeled their ID's. But there's a problem. They ID'd them as KBNX, not KNBX.

Elsewhere in the Valley of Sin, It's was told to me that KPVM-46 Pahtump will activate their Mt Potosi transmitter Springtime, which will add much of Las Vegas to their coverage area. They currently have a downtown Pahrump transmitter that covers mostly just Pahrump with their 7 sub-channels. The new transmitter site will cover both Pahrump and Vegas.

According to the Longley-Rice predicted coverage maps, KPVM should cover a significant part of Las Vegas from Mt. Potosi, and might even bleed over into Arizona around Dolan Springs, around the Temple Bar turnoff and south of the Willow Beach turnoff.

It's been known for some time that Quest was going to move from KGNG 26 to KINC 15 in Las Vegas. The exact sub-channel was a mystery, however. This morning I spotted that the Hispanic audio service on KINC 15.5 now has a PSIP that reads Quest. The audio service from the Hispanic station remains for now, with no video being transmitted, unless you count a blank screen as a service.

Quest in Las Vegas on KINC 15.5 has begun. It came to life at about 2:30 pm this afternoon. KINC serves a sizeable population in Arizona, Utah, California, in addition to Nevada.
