Programming Changes

  • KTTU 18.x (19) Tucson (Tucker Operating Co. LLC (D/B/A KTTU Television)) has been forced to switch to a low power backup transmitter due to a parts failure in its main transmitter. Restoration of full power is unknown pending arrival of new part that is on order. (Grateful acknowledgement to reader Bleen Gloob for report and research.)
  • KDPH-LD 48.x (46) Phoenix (Community Television Educators Inc.) is silent.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV LLC) has transitioned to RF channel 25, keeping virtual channel 50. At first, the eight subchannels were on air, but then went dark. The signal is still present on RF channel 25. I had predicted that they would skip using RF channel 25 and sign on to RF channel 30 on station K30MM-D, the construction permit of which the station had purchased from Gila River Telecommunications.
  • KGRY-LD 19.x (21) Gila River Indian Co (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) is silent.
  • KTVP-LD 44.x (16) has replaced The Family Channel on channel 44.6 with a second feed of OnTV4U.
  • K41IO-D Las Vegas NV (Enlace Christian Television Inc.) is silent.
  • KHSV 21.x (2) Las Vegas NV (Channel 33 Inc.) has added StartTV to channel 21.5.
  • KGNG-LD 26.x Las Vegas NV (King Kong Broadcasting Inc.) went dark for a time, then returned, having relocated its transmitter. The station has also added GetTV to its subchannel lineup, airing on channel 26.8.
  • KNTL-LP 47 Laughlin NV (Entravision Holdings LLC) is silent.
  • K16DS-D 8.x St. George UT (KCSG-TV LLC) has added StartTV to channel 8.3.
  • K27MQ-D 8.x St. George UT (KCSG-TV LLC) has added StartTV to channel 8.3.

Transactions

  • Globe LPTV LLC has consummated its purchase of K30MM-D from Gila River Telecommunications Inc.

Construction Permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) Granted

  • KTAZ 39.x (29) Phoenix (NBC Telemundo License LLC) requested and was granted an STA to operate at variance with its license due to an error. The new channel 29 antenna was installed correctly using the main beam axis of symmetry marking on the antenna, but the marking itself was incorrect, so the broadcast pattern is rotated 180° from what it should be. Telemundo expects the problem to be corrected within 60 days.
  • KHRR 40.x (16) Tucson (NBC Telemundo License LLC) requested and was granted an STA to operate at variance with its license. The amplifiers supplied with the new antenna are not capable of providing the 396 kW effective radiated power specified in the license and there was insufficient time to replace the amplifiers before the November 30 deadline. Telemundo expects the new amplifiers to arrive and to be installed within 45 days. Technical specifications: Ch 16; TL 32° 14' 56" N, 111° 6' 59" W (Tucson Mountains); ERP 396 kW directional (0.75° electrical beam tilt); HAAT 622 m.
  • KASW 61.x (49) Phoenix (Nexstar Broadcasting Inc.) has been granted an extension of its repack construction permit, allowing it to finish its final facilities after the November 30 deadline.
  • KBFY-LP 41 Fortuna (Powell Meredith Communications Company) has been granted a modified displacement construction permit to vacate the 600 MHz band and to flash cut to digital. Technical specifications: Ch 2; TL 32° 40' 19" N, 114° 20' 12" W (Gila Mtn.); ERP 0.002 kW directional; HAAT 349 m.
  • KGRY-LD 19.x (21) Gila River Indian Co (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) requested and has been granted a six-month Silence STA. The station was causing interference to co-channel KGRQ-LD, which began operating on RF channel 21 via STA from nearby Sacaton Peak.
  • K21CX-D Tucson (Ventana Television Inc.) has been granted an STA to begin operations on its requested displacement channel while awaiting Mexican concurrence. Technical specifications: Ch 35; TL 32° 24' 54" N, 110° 42' 58" (Mt. Bigelow); ERP 9.2 kW directional (3.3° electrical beam tilt); HAAT 1105 m.
  • KNTL-LP 47 Laughlin NV (Entravision Holdings LLC) requested and has been granted a six-month Silence STA. It had requested to be silent for 30 days while it replaces its analog facilities with digital. If all goes as planned, the station should be back on the air sometime around January 20. It will be a digital station operating on RF channel 35, possibly using virtual channel 15.x, although that could pose a problem for Bullhead City's KNXV-TV translators.
  • K17JQ St. George UT (Edge Spectrum Inc.) filed a Resumption of Operations notice then filed and was granted a six-month Silence STA nine days later.
  • K40KZ St. George UT (Edge Spectrum Inc.) filed a Resumption of Operations notice then filed and was granted a six-month Silence STA nine days later.

Construction Permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) Requested

  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV LLC) has requested a six-month extension of its STA to operate on channel 25.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV LLC) has modified its displacement application to specify channel 25 instead of channel 21. If granted, it will clear the mutual exclusivity on channel 21 with KGRQ-LD, allowing that application to be granted a construction permit, as well. Technical specifications: Ch 25; TL 33° 19' 57" N, 112° 4' 0" W (South Mtn.); ERP 5.5 kW directional (2.5° electrical beam tilt); HAAT 469 m.

Canceled, Dismissed, Expired and Expiring

  • KUVE-CD 42.x (36) Tucson (Univision Tucson LLC) has requested dismissal of its extension of construction permit request, now that it is operating its post-repack facilities. The FCC has canceled the extension request.
  • KDFQ-LD 47.x (27) Prescott (HC2 Network Inc.) has requested dismissal of its STA request to operate on RF channel 27, as a station now has a construction permit. The FCC has canceled the STA.
  • K29KO-D Gila River Indian Co (Gila River Telecommunications Inc.) has requested cancellation of its construction permit. The FCC has canceled the permit.
  • KNTL-LP 47 Laughlin NV (Entravision Holdings LLC) requested a legal STA to remain silent for 30 days, then requested dismissal of the application in favor of a Silence STA.

KGNG 26 Las Vegas aired GET TV on their 26.8 only for a couple of days before moving it to 26.3, where it is currently. RTV on KGNG 26.4 has been missing for several days, replaced with material from the stations' server (King Of Queens, Mantracker, Wild America, etc). The King Kong owner admits that he has more network/programming than he has space. This is the result of the sudden end of KVTE-35.

KPVT-2 and KHMP-18 continue to limp with crutches most of the week with a plethera of ailments. You can't operate two stations with this many problems from the comfort of a home in Atlanta.

HOT on KNBX 31.4 has been frozen this week. The little network just can't seem to keep the server chugging along the track.

And just what is K41IO waiting for with the move to another channel.

Musical chairs continue on KGNG-26 Las Vegas. Sunday evening Quest was pulled from 26.6 and replaced with local Asian Cutural TV. Retro remains missing from 26.4, as well.

As of this date, KTTU 18.x in Tucson remains off the air and operating on a low power transmitter. This marks 19 days.

On or about 12/05, the channel 7 group, (#36), disappeared from the air in the Casa Grande & Queen Creek area. Station engineer is stumped as are we. No problem found on his end or on ours. Curious if anyone has any input on the problem?

Interference from KUVE-CD Tucson perhaps? They moved from channel 42 to channel 36 during the repack. Casa Grande and Queen Creek are closest to Tucson, and KUVE-CD puts a decent signal into both areas, especially Casa Grande.

I think KTTU is back to full strength. It made an appearance at my west Chandler location last night.

KTTU resumed full power yesterday afternoon after being off the air with their main transmitter for 3 weeks.......must've been some big expensive part they had to order......plus the snow on the Catalina mountains.

KHRR 40.3 in Tucson is on the air with a blank screen, but ION tv has been MIA since last Friday the 18th of Jan.

11. On Tuesday, January 22 2019, 22:07 by Bleen Gloob

As of about 4 pm ION tv is back on the air. It appears that Telemundo had to order a part from ION to replace the one that burned out. It has something to do with removing a block from ION on the satellite feed so they can receive the signal.

WBAY-TV 2 of Green Bay, Wisconsin is getting two new digital subchannels:

2.4: H&I - Heroes & Icons (PSIP: "WBAY-HI")
2.5: Start TV (PSIP: "WBAY-STV")

Justice Network moved from KGNG 26.8 to KINC 15.4 Thursday late afternoon in Las Vegas. Pixelation issues are not good, as engineers will need to resolve this condition to attract viewers. KGNG switched their 26.8 to local server programming awaiting a more permanent source or network.

14. On Monday, January 28 2019, 11:02 by RDvegas

The saga of the PSIP for KGNG 26.8 Vegas continues. Sunday evening the moniker of that sub switched from (UnJustL" to "RuDODDS'. Monday morning it changed again to "Movies+" refelcting the local server movies they air.

I was unable to leave a comment on your Dec post, I am sorry to hear of your father's passing- I lost my Dad in October. I feel like a piece of myself is gone.

You mention Alexandria, VA I wonder if any of your people have met, or known my great-uncle George Fielding, US Navy Commander (Retired) or his wife Grace, but he passed way back in 07. I lost touch with him yrs ago- he was very religious and I was not (at the time!) & avoided contact. I sorely regret that I lost touch with him today.

You know, I fear that some people- maybe younger people, believe when we lose a loved one, that it "gets easier" as we get older. No, it never gets easier, it just happens more often & it's always such a great loss.

Heartland has disappeared from KHDF 19.1 Las Vegas. A query left at the Facebook Page of Heartland goes unanswered if the affiliation has been axed.
