Odds and Ends

For the curious who have noticed that channel 9 is approaching the end of the alphabet (K09ZX-D was assigned in Camp Verde) and have wondered how the FCC will assign call signs after reaching ZZ, the answer is 6-character base call signs. Channels 7 and 13 have already gone beyond ZZ, and K13AAD-D was assigned to a station in Kane County, Utah, in June. Utah has seen eight of the new call signs for channel 13, with one each in Alaska and Oregon. Utah also has the first three new call signs for channel 7.

You need to remove KTVE LP 35 in the Las Vegas, NV TV market listings. The station has been defunct since 2010. The stations web sites are gone and the bbb states Mountain Ridge Holdings has been out of business since 2013. No station or transmitter tower located at address listed.

2. On Sunday, September 2 2018, 02:32 by Paul

Update: I did see on the Aug TV Update that you had a renewed lic for KTVE and I eventually found it on the Fcc site as well. It sill lacking info on the stations status, true location and when it will go on the air if it does at all. I do know that in some cases licencees never have a station or go on the air. They just hold it and sell it at a high price when all the tv channels are used up.

3. On Sunday, September 2 2018, 20:41 by dhett

I understand exactly what you are saying and have been tracking it. Confirming what you have written, it has been years since I have picked up a signal on channel 35. I was surprised when the FCC renewed their license. Nevertheless, they did, and the license is current and valid, so I continue to report it.

Las Vegas channel 35 is rumored to be launching on 15 Oct with six sub-channels. GET TV is mentioned as one, suggesting a move from KNBX 31.2. Another sub is said to be Hispanic, while a third is called a right wing nut job channel. Will they be able to pull this off after 12 years in silence?

KVTE 35 in LV may have maintained their original analog transmitter location on Arden peak 35°56'44.0"N 115°02'31.0"W and has gotten all the DT equipment needed. Just had to wait for the lic to be granted and than the station could return to air with in a few months time. The station and relay will be at the same location listed.

11. On Saturday, September 22 2018, 19:45 by rdvegas

Las Vegas KVTE 35.1 is one the air today (Saturday) testing with GET TV. No sub-channels yet. During the test, KGNG rf 48 virtual 47 is down along with all their usual subs. Those continue to air on rf and virtual 26.

12. On Thursday, October 4 2018, 02:33 by TVinAZ

KASW has dropped Decades from 61.2 in favor of HSN. I'm sure this was a purely financial decision on the part of Nexstar, who prefers reverse compensation for their subchannels.

That means what will happen to KAZT 7.3. My guess is CBN News.

13. On Thursday, October 4 2018, 03:43 by dhett

It's not unusual for there to be multiple occurrences of the same home shopping network in a market. QVC is on channels 41.4 and 51.5. JTV is on both 44.4 and 58.1. I don't expect to see any change to 7.3.

I do hear that CBN News is working with HC2 for carriage. In Phoenix, HC2 owns channels 22, 25, 40 and 41. 22.5 has been available since the departure of AlmaVision several months ago, and 40.1 and 40.2 are usually showing the same programming as 41.1. While CBN News would likely be well-received in a conservative bastion like Yavapai County, I could see CBN News showing up on an HC2 station sometime in the near future.

14. On Thursday, October 4 2018, 14:20 by TVinAZ

I would have thought that if one of the HC2 stations in Phoenix picked up CBN, they would have done so on day one. There is a case (Lubbock, TX) in which a full-power Nexstar station was chosen over an HC2 LPTV. I'm sure the Londens would love to see a network that would show news from their worldview on one of their subchannels, and Rich up in Prescott may still know some of the CBN media buyers from the time they used to air "The 700 Club." I don't know if they would want to split sales percentages from HSN orders in the Phoenix market with KASW. We'll see what happens.
