Arizona TV Station Update - March 2014

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

Programming changes

  • KFPH-CD 35.x Phoenix (Unimas Partnership of Phoenix) has added Get TV to its lineup on channel 35.3, reserving channel 35.2 for the launch of Bounce TV sometime in 2015.
  • KEJR-LD 40.x Phoenix (Hero Licenseco LLC) has replaced infomercials on channel 40.2 with Spanish-language religious programming from El Evangelio Eterno of Los Angeles, California.
  • KPDF-CA 41.x Phoenix (Una Vez Más Phoenix License, LLC) has added Spanish-language Christian programming to channel 41.2, replacing the blank screen that had been there for about the past month. Currently, programming is from a Pentecostal Church of God International Movement congregation in central Phoenix, but Mision TV is announced to be coming soon.
  • KPHE-LD 44.x (16) Phoenix (Lotus TV of Phoenix LLC) has dropped CNN Latino from channel 44.1, making channels 44.1 and 44.2 full-time rebroadcasters of Telemax.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Phoenix (Globe LPTV LLC) has dropped TV Real from channel 50.3, replacing it with infomercials.
  • KBLR 39.x (40) Paradise NV (Telemundo Las Vegas License LLC) has dropped the long-dormant SOI TV subchannel.

Transactions

  • KTUD-CD 25.x (20) Las Vegas NV (VegasTV, LLC) has been involuntarily transferred from G.C. Investments, LLC, to Brian D. Shapiro, Chapter 7 Trustee. The transaction has been consummated.

Construction permits and STAs granted

  • An STA has been filed and granted for Community Television Educators of Phoenix to build a digital companion channel to former analog channel KDTP-LP 58 Phoenix on channel 11. KDTP has been awaiting Mexican coordination of its application.

Applications filed / STAs requested

  • K19IP-D Flagstaff (Luke Skelton) filed an amendment to its application stating that projected interference to K18DD Camp Verde would be 1.6%, not 1.2%, which was the projected interference from the former location.

Canceled, Denied, Dismissed, Expired or Expiring

  • An STA request for KDTP-LD 58.x (11) Phoenix was filed and dismissed. Daystar had filed the STA request against the wrong application, choosing an application that had expired in 2012 but has not been dismissed.
  • K23BY Scottsdale (KAZT LLC) has turned in its license, which the FCC has canceled.

License Renewals

Arizona, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico licenses expire October 1, 2014; California licenses expire December 1, 2014. October stations must file license renewals by June 1, 2014, and December stations by August 1, 2014. The following stations have already filed license renewal applications:

  • K17LM-D Yuma (Three Angels Broadcasting Network, Inc.)
  • K43FO-D Las Vegas NV (Three Angels Broadcasting Network, Inc.)

Extreme Mako-vers

Low-power pay-to-play stations that change lineups so often that it's hard to keep the current channels straight.

anyone know if Tucson has any lptv dtv stations? (w/o going through each and every channel.

2. On Sunday, April 6 2014, 20:46 by Bleen Gloob

I think these two are:

KUDF 14.x and KFTU 25.x

There may be more.

3. On Sunday, April 6 2014, 21:15 by Bleen Gloob

Sorry KFTU-CD is not 25.x, it's 18.x and it's Uni Mas

There is also an HSN channel too
K21CX-D 21.x

KUDF-CD 14.x is Azteca América

Bleen Gloob is correct. Tucson's LPTV pickings are quite slim. There are only 2 LPTV stations not repeating a local full-power signal and they only provide 2 subchannels - KUDF-LD 14.1 (Azteca America) and K21CX-D 21.1 (HSN). The others - K04QP-D 4.x, KOLD-TV 13.x (on RF 13), K16EO-D 9.x and KFTU-CD 34.x (on RF 18), are repeaters of local stations. All except KFTU exist to provide OTA service to the Marana and Oro Valley areas which are shielded by terrain from Mt. Bigelow.

Update: Mision TV is now available on channel 41.2 in Phoenix.

We were not going to have GetTV here. Univision was only going to give them 13.3 from Flagstaff and say they were in the Phoenix DMA. I went back and forth with Kate from GetTV trying to get her to understand what Univision had done and that they were misrepresenting themselves and the contract they signed with Sony. Finally I sent her this link:

https://maps.google.com/?q=http://t...

The link is from the FCC showing the coverage area of 13 from Flagstaff. It was this information that showed the deception of Univision claiming complete coverage of the Phoenix market which forced them to put GetTV on here.

Here is a note I got back from Kate at GetTV:

Hi Joe -

Actually, I was just about to email you to give you the good news! Great to get your email.

Yes, I think your advocacy has been incredibly helpful. Thank you.

You're right, it does seem like Univision is also doing deals with Bounce in different areas of the U.S. Good of you to notice.

I'm so glad you're now able to watch getTV in Phoenix, Joe! I hope you enjoy the classic movies that we all love and we appreciate your help.

Take care,

Kate

Thanks for the info. Yeah and 21.1 and 14 have awful audio issues, actually 21.1 has no audio and I am not the only one with that problem so it isn't my box.

KBLR 39.3 Las Vegas had carried colarbars for 14 months since they dropped their affiliation with SOI. Now that sub-channel is alive with the programming of ION effective this afternoon 4/11/2014.

Does this possibly mean we might be seeing COZI TV on KTAZ 39.3 in the near future? I read something about an NBC-owned Telemundo LPTV repeater in Salinas, CA carrying COZI.

Re: COZI-TV. We have the same problem with Cozi as was the problem with GetTV. Cozi is on 4, KVOA from Tucson. KVOA just squeeks into the DMA of Phoenix and Cozi thinks they are covering the Phoenix market. I have emailed them 4 times and have never received a response. I will make an attempt to contact them through telephone lines. I have been doing research to find out where to call and explain to them that our area, being the number 12 market, has no coverage.

If you figure it out and who to contact, be sure to send them the FCC link I have attached showing the broadcast area of KVOA. It is below.

BG:

Try sending an e-mail to KTAZ, and convince them as an NBC-owned station, they should be carrying COZI on 39.3:

https://stations.fcc.gov/station-pr...

(click "Contact via Email" under "Main Studio Address")

12. On Wednesday, April 16 2014, 21:38 by AZCoyote

I e-mailed the contact at KTAZ about 39.3, and got no response back. Maybe they're taking cues in customer service from their corporate parent!

13. On Monday, April 21 2014, 14:29 by Trip Ericson

Check TitanTV; it looks like KTAZ 39-3 will be carrying COZI at some point soon.

14. On Monday, April 21 2014, 23:03 by AZCoyote

COZI on 39.3 means that weather on 5.2 gets a reprieve...for now.

Now, only if there was a way that Dish could get some EPG information for all these subchannels that still say "Digital Service"

15. On Tuesday, April 22 2014, 13:06 by AZCoyote

COZI is now on 39.3.

16. On Sunday, April 27 2014, 23:46 by showlow

Just noticed 40.3 in Tucson is airing ION network.

17. On Friday, May 2 2014, 19:11 by showlow

so IDK what happened to 40.3 because the last few days there has just been a blank screen but the epg still has programming information.
